Recital Reflections

This month, we have been working on Recital Reflections. After each concert, the students take the time to evaluate their performance. They listen actively to provide valuable insights on how they did and how they can improve. They answer technical questions about dynamics, pedaling, and articulation, but they also discuss questions like “Did [my music] tell a story? Did I feel something?” These kinds of questions require introspection and critical thinking, and they encourage students to dig deeper and continue to strive for future excellence. I’ve posted the document if anyone is interested in viewing all of the questions to which students respond.

In addition to reviewing their own piece, students also have the opportunity to choose their favorite song that they heard and the recital and write a nice note to someone else! In the picture above, Dylan shows off his recital program complete with a fellow student’s complements regarding his song, Elephant Ride.
